Counselling services The university's Counselling, Health and Well-being Service is a team of professionally qualified and experienced counsellors, well-being and mental health mentors, and a mental health advisor. It provides a free, confidential and accessible service for students experiencing difficulties affecting their experience at university.
There is a drop-in service each weekday and initial assessment appointments are usually available within a few days of enquiry. The service provides one-to-one counselling and mental health support and advice; workshops and courses on coping skills such as managing anxiety or low mood, assertiveness skills, and group psychotherapy; and well-being events and campaigns to improve awareness of taking care of mental health.
There's also telephone support and advice for university staff and others with concerns about students at the university, along with training for staff on supporting students with mental health issues. Disability support The university provides dyslexia screenings, with onward referrals to Educational Psychologists where applicable.
Specialist study skills tutors for students with specific learning differences such as dyslexia offer one-to-one support, drop-in sessions and workshops, as well as advice and training on assistive technology available on campus.
